The Battle of Self-Improvement

As Confucius once said,

“It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.”

The journey to improvement in its many ways is long and tedious, the final result for it is what we tend to focus on. We see many successful billionaires and businessmen today such as Bill Gates or Elon Musk and love the thought of someday becoming someone of a similar status or position as they are. However, we do not think of how long it took them to reach said position. We do not think of the heavy hours and workload they have had to push through to get to their current position.

Many of us simply give up entirely as soon as we hit such problems. This is because we focus on the reward at the end, and how far away we are from it. Our abilities will never catch up to our demands for them as long as we continue focusing on the next shiny reward. It is the ability itself that we should focus on, and continue to nurture it. When gaining knowledge about a skill or passion, we should have the driving force behind it be the skill itself, and not the reward behind it. The journey to learning and improvement may not be fast, but you will reach it eventually as long as you continue to work towards it. Even if the long hours demotivate us, we simply need to change our mind-set towards it.

How?

Well, simply change your chain of thought. Instead of having a continuously self-deprecating mind-set, try to accept your failures and replace such negative thoughts with what is positive in yourself. Accept that we all have flaws, and that you are no exception to that. As long as you block out your negative thoughts, the long and tedious path to success will come much faster than you would expect it to.
