It called me there.
Howled, hissed, and hooted until slowly, the art of captivation hypnotized me. I feel reluctancy tugging the fringes of my last bit of sanity, but this view is impossible to resist. I jump over the 'No Trespassing' sign and maneuver around the empty Lifeguard Tower. It is as though my feet had their own sense of direction, as they freed themselves from the binding chains of my heels and drifted towards the vast expanse of blue. Each grain of sand that stuck to my feet did its best to stop me from reaching my destination, but every journey meets its end, and I've been homesick for far too long.
A midnight breeze brushes my face, engulfing me in that familiar rush of comfort. Glistening stars in the sky illuminate the depths of the abyss, while the air is set free with each gust of wind that blows by. As I reach the shore, the sound of waves crashing hits the tip of my eardrums. Back and forth, back and forth, they go–– a movement so chaotic yet, so precise. Today they're angry, and I wish I could decipher why, but that is out of the question, for the deep, dark Ocean never unveils its secrets to anyone except those within.
I lie there in the cold sand, just a few inches apart from my most valued companion. We both love the secluded area that we are to be destined. I believe the similarities that intertwine Ocean Blue and I are that we allow others to befriend us, and in our darkest hours, they are nowhere to be found. Ocean Blue and I, we offer each other the companionship we deserve.
We are one
Me and Ocean Blue. Ocean Blue and me.
I inch closer to the waves and pretend to stare at my reflection, but Ocean Blue, frankly, I was studying you. Your features are rough yet soft, bold but timid–––something only your dearest of companions would notice. I sit down right beside you and caress the waters you so beautifully conquer. I yearn to know all of your secrets, Ocean Blue, just as you know all of mine.
It is at that moment that it strikes me–– the Ocean never unveils its secrets to anyone except to those within. So, I gather up my courage, stand up, and take a step into the water. The water feels like fresh silk against my calloused skin, and I couldn't help but take another stride.
You were so excited to see me, Ocean Blue. So, I abided one step at a time—first, knee-deep. Then, thigh deep. Hip deep. Shoulder deep, and eventually, the water engulfed me whole. You, Ocean Blue, loved all of me, with nothing to spare. To my dearest companion ––– till death do us part.
For we were one.
Me and Ocean Blue. Ocean Blue and me.
