MRISB Gaming Competition Recap

As you may know, the MRISB Student Council held a bipartite gaming competition last week, which consisted of an Overwatch competition and a COD: Cold War one. Today we will outline what took place at the event for those who missed it; or want a refresher on what happened.

The COD tournament was a double elimination one (i.e. each team had to lose twice to lose the tournament) and had five teams competing:

  • 2seniors

  • Send me location

  • LTHL

  • MM101

  • and Scorpions

However, it wasn't without its fair share of issues. MM101 dropped out due to them being short on players, furthermore COD server issues made it difficult to get the games started. Nevertheless, the competition was streamed on the event’s discord server, and viewers thoroughly enjoyed it as if it were a professional E-Sports event, with LTHL winning in the end.

The Overwatch tournament suffered fewer difficulties, having only one missing player. Luckily, that led to an even number of players. Members of the tournament were divided randomly into two teams. There were three rounds of 3v3 lockout elimination where everyone on the winning team received two points. This was followed by three rounds of 3v3 Team Deathmatch, two points again being awarded to the winning team. Finally, two rounds of FFA Deathmatch were played, the points awarded for first, second and third place being 3, 2, and 1 respectively. Ali Mannan had been leading throughout the tournament until the thrilling final two free-for-alls, where Abdulaziz Al-Tuhami had caught up. Ali and Abdulaziz were now neck-and-neck, having to duel for first place. A tense series of 1v1s later, Abdulaziz managed to pull through, winning 7-5.

As a first attempt, the student council and the organisers of the event preformed a magnificent job making the even aesthetically pleasing, with well-made banners and professionally carried tournaments in general. We can’t wait for the next one!
